Discover the fascinating story of Lon Chaney, the Man of a Thousand Faces, in 'Mountain Roots and Silver Screen Dreams.' This short silent film celebrates the 100th anniversary of Chaney's iconic role as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera (1925). Watch as we pay tribute to his life and legacy, from his Colorado Springs roots to his iconic work in the early days of Hollywood.
We premiered this film as the first stop on this year's Beyond the Grave: The Phantom of the Opera tour because we wanted to highlight the connection of the Chaney family to Colorado Springs and Evergreen Cemetery, where Lon Chaney's mother and siblings rest. It's fitting that we pay tribute to the actor who, more than anyone else, brought Gaston Leroux's legendary character to life and into the popular imagination.
